Cake Class Final

Last night was my last class in the Wilton Fondant and Gum Paste course. I really enjoyed this class and I love working with fondant. I even found a recipe for fondant that actually tastes good! Here are a couple pictures of my final cake.

This was my first time covering an actual cake (my first time using fondant was on a styrofoam dummy cake).

I had so much fun and can't wait to take my next class this summer!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the O’Haymond Household!

We had a fun St. Patrick’s Day. On Monday night we made a leprechaun trap. I got the idea from a magazine and I think it turned out great! Amelie enjoyed helping put it together and learning about leprechauns. She also enjoyed the yummy cupcakes I made to celebrate 🙂 Holidays are so much fun with a toddler in the house!

We made a gigantic leprechaun hat to appeal to the leprechaun's ego, placed a ladder up against it, and enticed him to the top with some gold. However, the top was designed to collapse when any weight was placed on it. Unfortunately, we didn't have any luck capturing a leprechaun. But the next morning, the top had collapsed in and there was a note in the hat that said, "Thanks for the gold! I'm too sneaky for you and I escaped!-Leprechaun."

My Second Cake Class

I am in the middle of my second series of cake classes. I love these classes and have so much fun learning different decorating techniques. This current class is teaching us how to work with fondant and gum paste. Next week is my last class (in this series) and I will post pictures of my final cake then. But until then, here are some of the things I’ve been working on.

This is my first attempt at covering and draping with fondant.

Here are some fun flowers made from fondant and gum paste. We learned how to make these in my class last night.

Smiles and Painting

Just a few shots from the past couple of weeks.

Inspecting her work. I think more paint ended up on her hands than on the paper! :)

Cousins

Calder has been having fun hanging out with Hayley, his sweet cousin who is almost exactly one month older than he is. They love to explore each other’s faces and converse in coos.

So excited to play with Hayley!

"Nice mouth you got there, Calder."

Don't worry. I don't think her fingers actually made it up his nose...

It’s a joy to have this beautiful cousin just down the road from us. And, who knows? Maybe they’ll be dance partners in a couple years!
