Disneyland Day 2!

Have you recovered from the overload of pictures? Good! Becase here’s some more from our fun Disneyland trip. On Friday, September 14th, we spent the day in the Disneyland Park (Thursday was spent at California Adventure, the Disney park adjacent to Disneyland).

Eager to get going after a good night's sleep. We're so glad we brought these two strollers--they made things so much easier!

Disneyland all decked out for Halloween. There were fun Halloween touches all over the park.

On the Finding Nemo submarine ride. The kids were so enthralled and totally convinced that we were actually submerged deep in the ocean in a submarine. Other favorite rides of the day: Pirates of the Caribbean, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, and the Matterhorn (among many others that we all enjoyed).

Three cheers for Dole Whips! At the Enchanted Tiki Room, you can get these absolutely delicious treats called Dole Whips. The version I have is soft-serve pineapple ice cream deliciousness. Bryce opted for the float version--the soft-serve swimming in a sea of fresh pineapple juice. It was really (really!) hot while we were there, so the cold treats plus the wonderful air conditioned Enchanted Tiki Room were much appreciated!

The three amigos on Splash Mountain. There were a handful of rides that I had to opt out of this trip because of the pregnancy, so I just watched them as they plummeted down. Bryce has a pretty classic whoop of delight as he goes down this ride. They got to go on this one a couple times. I really like Calder's expression in this picture. Don't ask me about the glowing orb in the back seat...

Meeting Tigger. This character turned out to be a favorite with Amelie and Calder. They just loved him!

And Eeyore. I was impressed that these characters were able to sign Amelie's autograph book, big furry paws and all.

For lunch, we went to Cafe Orleans and had some delicious food. Pomegranate lemonade, these amazing pomme frites (covered in garlic and parmesan cheese!), Monte Cristo sandwiches, oh my! It was all delicious and we only wished our stomachs were big enough to eat it all!

One of our birthday treats, free thanks to our birthday pins. All three of us wearing pins got one of these delicious beignets. Amelie licked hers clean of powdered sugar and then left the naked pastry on her plate, Calder spilled sugar all over the place and devoured the whole thing, and I chose to eat mine like a normal human being. So yummy!

"So I gobbled it up and got sugar everywhere! What are you gonna do about it, huh?" This little guy did so well this trip. I was really so proud of him.

It's a small world after all! We went on this one a couple times, too. Calder was enchanted by it and Amelie loved all the beautiful dolls. I loved the air conditioning!

The Haunted Mansion. We had to stand in line a bit for this one because we happened to be there on the day the ride opened with its special Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. I actually thought it was less creepy with the holiday change. I guess Calder might have been a bit young for this one. His imagination must have conjured up some pretty scary images (far worse than anything on the ride!) because he kept his head buried in my lap the whole time. Bryce and I agreed that we should have called it the Christmas Halloween House or something--then he might not have been so scared. While standing in line, Calder took one look at some scantily clad girls standing behind us and said, "Mom! She is not very modest!" Nothing like having a talk about modesty with your 3 year-old while in line at Disneyland! What a sweetheart.

Tuckered out after a fun fun day! This provides a nice contrast to the first picture in this post. It was sure a wonderful day of fun rides, delicious food, and great family time!

Stay tuned for our final day!

Disneyland Day 1!

We went to Disneyland last week and had a marvelous time! Easton stayed home with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Brad and Aunt Michelle. We figured he would have more fun playing than being stuck in a stroller all day. Prepare yourself for many pictures…

Getting to ride a shuttle at the airport and then flying were wonderful adventures for these two. Amelie couldn't stop exclaiming over everything during our flight. It was pretty cute. When we lifted off the ground, she yelled in glee, "WE'RE FLYING!" We should all be so excited about the miracle of flight, you know?

Snug as bugs. This was the scene each night of our trip within minutes (or seconds!) of getting back to our hotel room. Amelie kept calling the hotel the Clubhouse. Either she was thinking of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or our community clubhouse...Either way, they both loved it.

Excited to go on their first ride of the trip in Cars Land! These two did so well. I was amazed at how well they waited in line (we had a couple of long waits) and how well they held up during the day.

Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. I had to include a picture of this because it was one of Calder's favorite rides.

For lunch on Day 1, we chose a Character Dining Experience at Ariel's Grotto. Basically, that means pricey (but yummy!) food with the chance to meet some Disney characters. In this case, we got to meet 5 princesses. The kids were over the moon! I knew Amelie would be, but Calder was totally smitten by the princesses. It was pretty funny.

Sleeping Beauty...

Belle signing Amelie's autograph book.

Cinderella...

And Snow White. She must have been Calder's favorite because he gave her a big hug. See his sheepish grin? He loved every second of it.

Meeting Lighting McQueen.

Standing in line. I actually include this picture because of the vampire action happening right behind us. Strange, no?

We all just had a really fun time. It was great to have that time to just play as a family.

This is to highlight our birthday pins. We got one for the three of us with September birthdays. These little babies got us free desserts and lots of "Happy Birthday" greetings from people all over the park. Pretty fun! We did have several people ask if Amelie and Calder were twins--I guess they assumed their birthdays were actually on the same day.

A funny picture of us on Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land. It was faster than I thought it would be! That's my excuse for my petrified look, at least. It was actually super fun ride.

We have lots more photos, of course, but there’s just a little taste of the fun time we had on our first day at Disneyland!

In Other News…

Amelie and Calder started school…

Amelie LOVES school! She is going to a little private school here in Pleasant Grove. There are 12 kids in her combined 1st/2nd grade class, her teacher is super nice, and Amelie is learning so much!

Calder is going to the Montessori preschool that we love with Miss Rebecca. Learning lots about letters and numbers!

And Amelie lost her first tooth!

The Ordeal of the Wiggly Tooth went on for over a week. I was beginning to despair that it might never come out. And she was so worried about me trying to pull it out! Finally, we got it and there was much rejoicing.

The News

Today is my 28th birthday. Happy Birthday to me!

But that’s not the real news. The real news is that yesterday, I got a really wonderful birthday present. A heartbeat.

A little heartbeat in a body the size of a fig (apparently). A precious heartbeat that confirmed that, yes, someone very special will be joining our family in April.

A great birthday gift.

Happy 6th Birthday, Amelie Pearl!

Today my baby girl turned 6 years old! Time is already flying too fast for my taste. Sometimes she’ll look up and I’ll see her little newborn face looking back at me. But who has time to be nostalgic when you’re 6? Things to learn! Places to see! People to meet! And Amelie is very excited about it all.

Thank you, Marcie, for the wonderful pictures! (www.jesseephotography.com) This little miss was determined to pose and not let any silliness come through.

I interviewed Amelie today:

Me: What is your favorite color?

Amelie: Pink and purple and red.

Me: What’s your favorite show on T.V.?

A: George. (Curious George)

M: What’s your favorite movie?

A: Um, Mulan.

M: What’s your favorite food to eat?

A: Pizza. (I should note that almost every answer she gave sounded like a question. George? Mulan? Pizza? Isn’t that funny how kids do that?)

M: What’s your favorite dessert?

A: My favorite dessert, well, my favorite dessert is all kinds of desserts!

M: There’s not one specific one?

A: Well, there is one that I like. There’s, um, sugar cookies. And cupcakes. And I like all the rest. I like lots of kinds of desserts.

Marcie tried her best to get Amelie to giggle or laugh, but Amelie was determined to focus and stay in control.

M: Who is your best friend?

A: Um, my best friend is Lyssa. (Alyssa Jessee, Brad and Michelle’s niece.)

M: What is your favorite part about going to school?

A: Doing activities.

M: What’s your favorite game to play?

A: Um, my favorite game to play is hide and go seek.

M: Where are we going for your birthday?

A: DisneyLand.

M: What are you looking forward to most about DisneyLand?

A: Meeting the princesses.

My very own princess. And I don't even have to travel to DisneyLand!

M: What’s your favorite song on the radio?

A: I Haven’t Met You Yet.

M: Can you sing me a little bit of it? Please?

A: Um, no.

M: What do you want to be when you grow up?

A: I want to write shows and movies. And I want to be a ballet dancer. I can’t choose which one.

Siblings.

We sure do love you, Amelie! You will always be my Sweet Pea and I am so grateful to have you in my life.
