The Cruise

Over the Christmas holidays, Bryce and I decided to go on a cruise for our 11th anniversary in April. Thanks to family members and neighbors willing to help with our children while we were gone, we got to spend a whole week relaxing and traveling and it was amazing! We flew to Galveston, Texas and boarded Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas. We spent a couple days at sea (which was so lovely–total relaxation!) and then stopped in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel before making the trip back to Texas. Before our flight home, we were able to visit the Johnson Space Center. It was such a great trip and we can’t wait to cruise again!

I can't remember why we took this photo, but Bryce looks so cute in it, I just had to post it.

We had a lot of fun on the ship. We went to a couple art auctions (I had no idea the seas were the place to be for fine art!), some art lectures, listened to some pretty decent karaoke, saw a great ice skating show (yes, our ship had a rink!), saw a so-so ballroom show (the pros were great, the rest of the cast was not very great at all), went to an a capella concert (awesome!), had great food, ordered room service, read books, took naps, and just enjoyed not having any real responsibilities!

This hike was no joke! Slippery and pretty steep in sections. But it was beautiful and totally worth it.

I thought I might be a bit squemish about the stingrays, but I actually loved getting to hold and feed them. They're kind of velvety.

On the beach in Cozumel. Very relaxing. I got burned on my back and shoulders. I wasn't even in the sun for very long and I did put on sunscreen, but I guess I needed thicker stuff with higher SPF. Lesson learned!

This was really neat--it's the mission control room that will be used for missions to Mars!

It was such a lovely trip. So grateful for everyone that helped make it possible and for the wonderful company of my Sweetheart. Happy 11 years!

Bryce Canyon 2015

Over spring break, we took a road trip down to Bryce Canyon. We drove down (takes about four hours), did some exploring, stayed the night in a hotel, played some more the next day and then drove home. It was pretty great! A little hard to get all of us sleeping well in one room, but that’s probably to be expected. The canyon itself was just stunning. The formations and colors are incredible and seem like something from another planet.

We also hiked through a petrified forest. It was pretty amazing--lots and lots of petrified wood. It was fun to see the different colors and just marvel at the process that turned wood to stone.

Lots of great memories made. And a bit of, “Are we there yet?”, too, of course.

Liam is 2!

My sweet baby boy is 2 years old. I know it’s cliché, but can’t I keep him little? His soft arms hugging me tight around my neck, his chubby hands reaching up to me, his fresh smile each morning when I walk in and say, “Hello, Sweetheart!”, his waves and calls of “See ya later!” He is just heaven. And now he is 2 and I’m trying to hold on to his sweet baby ways. A huge thanks to my friend, Adam Johnson, for these beautiful photos!

Clearly, a photo shoot was not what he had in mind!

Easton is 4!

4 years old already! What a little man he has become. He’s at the crossroads of toddlerhood and childhood–a place where emotions can be big and hugs can be even bigger. A big thanks to my friend, Adam Johnson, for these fantastic pictures!

How to Eat a Corn Dog

Today, we welcome Dr. Liam Haymond. Dr. Liam completed his training in feeding himself this past year and his research interests include mess making, introducing food to his hair, and hiding crumbs in his lap until his mother goes to get him out of his high chair and then observing the subsequent shower of crumbs on to the dining room floor. In his spare time, Dr. Liam enjoys giving kisses and snuggling his blankie.

Thank you for having me. Today, as you can see, we are working with a common corn dog. The specimen is of average size and length and coated in a corn-based crust.

As we consider the corn dog, it's important to remember temperature, mouth size, and proper grasp.
