It’s a Boy!

We had our ultrasound today, and we’re having a baby boy! We’re so excited! Now we’ll have one of each. Everything looks perfectly normal and healthy. He was moving around a lot and it was a little hard to get all the measurements because he was rolled up in a ball most of the time. So, here are some pictures! (We’ll also put up the ultrasound video later if you are interested.)

This is his profile, and clear shot of his spine.

It’s a little hard to tell in this picture, but here’s the proof we’re having a boy. If you click on any of these pictures you can see a higher resolution version.

One of Bryce’s first thoughts was, “Great! A dance partner for Amelie!”

Our Anniversary Weekend

This past weekend, Bryce and I had a great time celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary. We left Friday morning and traveled up to Park City. Once a month, the city’s art center has a gallery stroll where, for a small fee, you can visit 21 of the local art galleries (mostly located on Main Street) and munch on yummy refreshments along the way. We got to see some original Picasso and Rembrandt studies and sketches and enjoyed all of the original artwork. I was pretty exhausted hiking up and down steep Main Street, but it was worth it.

On Saturday, we toured the Olympic Park and got to go up to the top of the ski jump runs. You’d be amazed how steep they are!

We spent Saturday afternoon/night and Sunday morning at The Johnson Mill, a bed and breakfast in Midway. Here’s me at a veteran’s memorial overlooking Heber and Midway:

One of the best parts of the Mill, for us anyway, was that we were able to fish on the property. Yes, Austins, I said fish. Bryce taught me how to knot on a lure, cast, and reel a fish in. We soon realized, when I caught my first fish, that I don’t particularly care for the actual fish. In fact, I made Bryce take my poll and I ran away from the squirming slippery fish while he removed the hook and threw it back in. By the end of our stay, I was a little more used to the fish, although I still didn’t want to actually hold one. Yuck. Here’s some scenes from our fishing adventures. This is the first fish I caught (and ran away from):

It was a really great weekend and we are so grateful to Angela and Brenda for tending Amelie for us!

That’s right folks…We’re having a Jellybean!

Sorry I have been so lax in posting recently. I blame it on the bean that has been making me sick and just plain exhausted. However, we are approaching the end of the first trimester, so things should be looking up from here. For those of you that didn’t know, we are expecting baby #2 at the end of September and we are very excited. We’re looking forward to the blessing of this new addition to our family and to watching Amelie become a big sister.

Today we went in for our first appointment with our midwives and it went great. Since it’s still a bit early in the game (10.5 weeks), she wasn’t able to pick up the baby’s heartbeat with the doppler thing-a-ma-bob. I was kind of bummed out until she said she would just roll in a portable ultrasound machine! So, although we didn’t get to hear the heartbeat today, we did get to see the little bean and that was terrific. During the scan we could clearly see the little head and we watched it moving around, having a great time in there. And, most importantly, we got visual confirmation of cardiac activity. Yay! We thought we’d share the photo she gave us, even though it really just looks like a blob. The baby was much clearer during the actual scan. I think the head is the bigger blob on the left 😉 Just click on the thumbnail to see a larger version of the picture.

Well, we hope everyone is doing well and I promise to post more soon!
